Arrival at Airport

Bangkok has two international airports, Suvarnabhumi (BKK) and Don Mueang (DMK), both are connected by an excellent train, bus, and highway system.

Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK)

  • Trains - The ARL City line departs from the basement of the airport and connects to the MRT at Makkasan and BTS at Phaya Thai, the fare is 45 baht and the journey takes about 30 minutes. This is the recommended way to get into town to avoid traffic.
  • Ride Hailing - BKK Airport is serviced by Grab, Bolt, and other ride-hailing apps. Grab is popular, accepts credit cards and is reasonably convenient.
  • Meter Taxi - Follow the public taxi sign on the 1st floor and take a ticket from the machine, standard taxis are regular sedans whilst big taxis are SUVs. Note they only take cash, you need to pay for the expressway, and there is a 50 baht surcharge. Travel time is approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour and expect to pay around 300 - 500 Baht depending on your destination.
  • Airport Limousine - Luxury option, you can get a comfortable car (Toyota Camry to Mercedes Benz), prices start from 800 Baht.
  • Bus - The S1 Bus goes to Khao San and the Democracy Monument area, you need to take a shuttle bus from the 5th floor, journey time is about 1 hour.

Don Mueang Airport (DMK)

  • Trains - Follow the sign to the SRT Red line that will take you to the Bang Sue Grand station that connects to the MRT. Trains depart approximately every 20 minutes between 5.30am and midnight, cost is 20 Baht and it takes about 20 minutes to reach Bang Sue. This is the recommended way to get into town.
  • Bus - There are several buses which depart from Don Muang, the most convenient of which is possibly A1 that takes you past Mo Chit BTS where you can continue by train. Buses depart from Terminal 1 Exit 6 or Terminal 2 Exit 12, price is 30 Baht.
  • Ride Hailing - DMK Airport is serviced by Grab, Bolt, and other ride-hailing apps. Grab is popular, accepts credit cards and is reasonably convenient.
  • Meter Taxi - There is a taxi counter on the first floor, note they only take cash, you need to pay for the expressway, and there is a 50 baht surcharge. Travel time is approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour and expect to pay in total around 400 - 700 Baht depending on your destination.
  • Airport Limousine - Luxury option, you can get a comfortable car (Toyota Camry to Mercedes Benz), prices start from 800 Baht.
